Pole Class

Pole class went well again last night. Everyone managed to get something new and one lady managed her first ever invert. Need to start looking for a new studio as the one I use is closing down soon and besides I really need somewhere bigger. It's difficult finding a suitable venue in Weston-Super-Mare though. All the good places seem to have vaulted ceilings which is no good putting up x-poles.

I didn’t get any personal practice in aside form one Shoulder mount as we were late starting and finishing.

Corde Lisse

When it comes to drops I am the biggest wimp going. I think this is in part down to me being a control freak. OK, so you control the wrap, and some drops can have a degree of control to them but really once you’re dropping that’s it, what happens, happens and there is nothing you can do until it’s finished.

So, after the warm up and climbs last nights Corde lisse class focused entirely on drops.

I can’t remember the name of the first one. It started from Catchers and then involved some wrapping into a figure 8 type wrap. It made perfect sense when I was on the ground watching it but once up in the air dangling upside down I really struggled to get my head around it. The person I was sharing the rope with struggled with it as well so it wasn’t just me. The rest of the group had varying degrees of success with it.

The second drop was Owens Drop. I’ve done Owens Drop before and got on OK with it. Once you’re doing it it’s really not scary or painful. It starts in Key of Stomach which then wraps into a kind of double catchers. You then do two little drops which finishes in catchers. I managed to do the wrap with no problems but I was too low down to do the actual drop. I ended up not doing it which I am now annoyed at myself for.

I managed to get in a bit of practice going over twizzle into catchers which a previous instructor had shown us. It had been at least two months since I last attempted it so it wasn’t working very well. I had previously got it nicely from the floor and could just about manage up the rope so it was annoying that I could barely even manage it from the floor. I’ll make sure I practice it a couple of times each lesson and it will come back properly though.

I feel that I need to put more effort in next time!

Corde Lisse and Pole

Corde Lisse on Monday went fairly well. I was feeling a bit tired but did ok. We were going back over Key of Stomach to get into it nicely and then doing a little drop into it. Also looked at Mobile to Mobile again. I didn’t quite manage it but got closer than I have on previous attempts so that’s progress!

Pole class last night was good. Everyone is progressing nicely and they all managed to get a new move. Also started teaching the routine to the newer ones and they picked it up well. It was good for me to run through it as well as I haven’t done it for a while and whilst I could remember it I found it quite tiring so I need to spend time practicing routines / freestyle to full songs to build up stamina and flow. Had a quick practice of my Shoulder Mount after class and managed to hold it quite a long time. The aim is to be able to hold it out flat which I am still a way off from but it at least seems obtainable.

Introduction.

Hi. I'm Lucie and I've decided to start a blog (well actually 2, this one an another which I haven't set up yet about books and films) to chart my progress with the various activities that I do. At the moment those activities are mainly Pole, Corde Lisse and Burlesque.

Pole is my main love. I own 5 poles; 3 x-poles, 1 stage pole and one fixed pole. I teach a small weekly pole class in Weston-Super-Mare and aim to get regular personal practice in as well (although not been doing much lately, part of the aim of this blog is to see how much I'm doing which will hopefully encourage me to do more). I also go to a Chinese pole class whenever I can although those have been few and far between recently.

I attend Corde Lisse classes weekly in Bristol. These are great fun. I've just had a block off and it was my first class back this week. I think the break did me good as I went back refreshed and I hadn't lost too much strenght which is good!

I also have recently started attending a weekly Burlesque class in Clevedon. This is good fun and great for making friends. We took part in a show at the weekend which was scary but fun!

So, I'll be updating this with the progress that I make.

Burlesque

Burlesque class tonight went well. It was the first class learning the new routine which is to Mama from Chicago. Its a really good routine, going to enjoy doing this one.
